Frequently Asked Questions
Q: If I see a photo of an arched top door or gate I like, can it be built as a flat top?
A: Any of our products can be built to fit any shape opening. In addition, any finish or distressing technique can be done on any product or wood species, with a few exceptions.
Q: Can I add an interior door to a finished opening in my home where there is no existing door jamb, like the passageway between the bedroom and the bath?
A: This is an easy fix. We can build a door and jamb to fit snugly into any shape opening, resulting in the privacy and sound abatement a door will provide.
Q: Can decorative ironwork be purchased separately or custom made for my project?
A: Yes. We are happy to replicate your designs or help you create something unique.
Q: What are clavos?
A: A clavo (claw-vo) is a crude iron nail head used as a decorative element on planks or rails, or at the points of joinery between stiles and rails. They are available in a variety of shapes and sizes, and can be purchased separately.
Q: What is a “Peeled Paint” finish?
A: “Peeled Paint” is our wire brushed multi-layered finish that replicates the look of old painted wood, weathered to the point where the paint has partially worn away, exposing the wood grain beneath it. The result is a beautiful play of colors that usually only nature can produce. Anasazi can create custom color recipes that tastefully tie together the stucco, stone, roof and other elements of your project. These finishes may look aged, but they are extremely durable.
Q: Can I retrofit my home with ceiling beams?
A: We build light weight 3-sided faux beams made from ¾” thick material such as knotty alder, cedar or mahogany. They are distressed with eased edges, cracks, gouges and wormholes to simulate salvaged wood beams.
Q: When should I order doors for my new construction project?
A: The best time to firm up your door plans is when you break ground. Interior doors that get bull-nosed walls must be installed before sheetrock. Doors that get casing trim can be installed after sheetrock.
Q: What types of glass options are available?
A: For exterior doors, side-lites, transoms and cooled wine rooms, clear insulated and tempered glass is standard. For a wide variety of decorative art glass, we collaborate with Sacramento Glassworks, located in our same building.
